So there was a flu clinic today at the pharmacy, so I spent the majority of my time filling syringes of fluvirin influenza vaccine. I probably have a hematoma on my finger from tapping out a ridculous amount of bubbles from the syringes, but it was great practice for my compounding exam. Funny thing though, almost everything we were taught about aseptic technique, how to make sure to place the needles at a low angle so that we don't core the needle, all that wonder ful stuff taught to us by the Dean of Pharmacy was thrown out the window when prefilling flu shots. I was really slow at it too, because I was trying to be precise and slightly aseptic. While many days are simply tedious at the pharmacy, with a lot of filling, counting by fives and trying to decipher really really bad handwriting (and I thought my handwriting was bad), there are a few times where my skillz are put to the test. Though today a woman asked about beta blockers and dystolic dysfunction and I was at a definite loss. I want to do more, but I feel in such a busy store I am unable to that. Oh well. I've also made friends with a couple of the interns and techs, having lunch with a graduate intern named Fanny nearly every day. We talk about the NAPLEX and the world of pharmacy a lot, since he is scheduling the test very soon. He reminds me of some of my pharmacy friends a lot, with the fact that he is at ease with pharmacy knowledge and the work flow of the pharmacy, something which I struggle with. Between him and another intern Jim, they have taken me under their wing for now since the pharmacists cannot spend the time with me that I need. Hopefully that will change and I will be able to do more in terms of learning.
