First Week

So it's the end of my first week at walgreens pharmacy (aka rotation 1). I have quite a few papers to do, starting with outpatient treatments of MRSA, the handling of controlled drugs in CA and a comparison of different topical corticosteroids. The last one is due to the fact that a young girl came in with a prescription for permethicine and a topical corticosteroid whose name eludes me right now and I stupidly told my preceptor I had never seen the corticosteroid medication before and therefore did not know how to counsel. I also forgot what permethicine was for, which I promptly remembered right after my preceptor started talking to the patient (it's for scabies). Ugh. Plus, between talking with Phil (who has always amazed me in the study department) and listening to a couple of the graduate interns who just took the NAPLEX, I really need to get on the move with this studying for the boards thing. Apparently there were a bunch of questions about cystic fibrosis on the latest NAPLEX, and about the only thing I remember about CF is that you need percussions on the chest to loosen the mucus build up. And I doubt that's going to be on the test.

I also hung out with my next door neighbor Walter on wednesday. He is an interesting guy and he reminds me somewhat of my ex-roommate Mike, except without the whole sexual deviance, arrogant asshole thing and 20 years older (Wally is 43). He's a Long Island transplant to CA and is married to a very nice Mexican woman named Patricia. I'm worried about heading more out into San Francisco due to the fact that I get home around 7:30pm and I hate going into unknown places alone at night. I'm sure this weekend will be more exciting, since I'll be heading into Berekeley for a while to study and I'm hoping to get more into the church with institute and possible FHE.

Hi Jen... found a link to your blog on Jolyne's. Hope you don't mind. I know what you mean about being alone at night. I don't even like being at HOME alone at night. Hope all is going well, and good luck studying.
