Gen Con came and went. It was probably one of the worst vacations I've had in a while.
Klaudia left the pharmacy the week before and things turned to shambles. The new manager is terrible and I got into a huge argument with the owners because I refuse to sell illegal antibiotics over the counter to the polish customers and apparently that means I don't want to work here. The pharmacy is going down hill and I'm ready to get out. Unfortunately, this argument happened right before I headed to out, so great way to start my vacation.
The first day was ok. It was an 8 hour drive to Sandusky. I drove most of the way, so the drive went very smooth. After getting to the hotel, we went to see the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. I had been wanting to see that movie for a long time, so going was very important to me. Despite the entirety of the group being in Sandusky, only Alex and Ben (the people I drove with) went to see it with me. I enjoyed the movie, but instead of being happy to hang out with me, both of them did nothing but complain about how bad the movie was. It was hurtful and despite them apologizing, I felt my evening had been ruined.
Monday we were all supposed to go to ceder point. We got up early and headed out to the first open coaster, which was the Milennium Force. While most of the guys were on that, 3 of us stayed behind because we don't like roller coasters. Then one of the group, Damian, left all together for an unexplained reason. We all then headed to the Dragster to wait in line, but by that point it started to rain and the coasters closed down. We ended up heading back to the hotel, going in the pool and waiting for the rain to stop. When we thought it had, Alex, Ben and I headed back to the park. Alex ended up getting on 1 roller coaster and so did Ben before it started raining again. I was able to do one ride, the swings, which I love. Then, since it was raining, we headed for lunch. Coming back, we tried again to do some coasters, but managed to only go on one other. I played skee ball for a while and then it was back to the hotel. No one else in our group went back to the park and instead left to watch a movie and stayed in the hotel. Ceder Point was a bust.
Tuesday was Chicago. We ended up arriving around 1pm there and the entire group headed to Millennium Park to see the art structures. I had told the group about this gaming store, which is probably one of the largest in the country, by our friend Jim's apartment and had planned for us all to go there. Instead of riding on the subway, the rest of the group took a taxi, leaving us to take either take the subway or take a separate taxi and pay a lot of money. As Alex and I headed up there on the subway, the rest of the group texted saying they were here and now were leaving, despite the fact that we were maybe 10 minutes behind them on the subway. Again, it was hurtful because they couldn't wait for us despite us being the ones who told them about this place. They headed back to the hotel as soon as we got there and so Alex and I headed to our friend Jim's house. It was a nice visit and I was happy to see him again. Then we took him down to our hotel so we could all go to Giordano's, which we had planned to do from the beginning. However, going to Giordano's turned into an issue with the rest of the group because Giordano's doesn't take reservations and we were a table of 8. Everyone was complaining, even though I told them before hand what was in store for at this place. It ended up only taking 20-30 minutes for us to get a table and then our food was out immediately. I love that pizza, and yet all I got was complaints about how it was too greasy. Again, another night pretty much ruined by pettiness.
Wednesday was the drive to Indianapolis. It was a long drive, but it was quite beautiful out there. I found out, however, that our friend Ben is probably one of the worst drivers I've ever met. He drives like a 16 year old despite having driven for over 10 years. It was a little scary, especially if you are on the road surrounded by trucks. Getting to Indianapolis, a highlight was that we got an upgrade on the hotel and ended up being in a large suite with access to free breakfast and snacks. Ben split the hotel with us, which made getting the upgrade very good. I had also made reservations for that night at a very famous steakhouse in the city, so we called the rest of the group to come hang out with us. They decided they were going to eat Chic-fil-A despite us telling them we had snacks for them and they agreeing to come over. However, they did show up for the steakhouse and the food was excellent. Alex and I decided that we were done trying to include them in our plans.
Thursday was GenCon and it opened with us getting all our pre-released games. After that was True Dungeon, which we did both games this time. Afterwards, we all headed to steak and shake and it was a nice time.
Friday was a busy day. Alex and I had an RPG game with the creator of the RPG, then we bought some more things and headed to a seminar on the art of the RPG game we were playing and then I had a crafting project. By that time, I was feeling pretty sick and didn't want to do too much. When Alex and I headed to dinner is when I realized something was very wrong because I could not taste any of my food. I ended up not getting any sleep that night because there were no 24 hour pharmacies within walking distance.
Saturday I got up early after a night of not sleeping and headed to the pharmacy. After getting some sudafed to help me breath, I ended up spending the majority of the day sleeping while Alex headed out to enjoy the con. He got back around 4pm and we contacted our friend David Ewalt to have dinner with. It was good to see him and Alex ended up pick him to be one of his groomsmen. We then were suggested to go to the D20 girls burlesque show, which actually ended up being a lot of fun. It was a good way to end an otherwise crappy day for me.
Sunday was the last day and Alex felt he needed to try and sell his company and gaming ideas. So while he did that, I headed up to the CVS that had an urgent care clinic and ended up being put of doxycycline for 5 days. Then, with no way to hail a taxi back, I walked back to GenCon and met up with Alex. From there, we decided to watch the Giver to try to make ourselves feel better about an unproductive day at GenCon. Then we headed to the hotel and ate at Texas Roadhouse.
Monday and Tuesday were driving home. They were pretty unproductive except that now I know that I am literally the best drive of all my friends, which is quite sad.
Now that I'm home, the pharmacy issue is coming to a head. With Klaudia gone and no more Express Scripts, the money from prescriptions is very limited. And I have found out that an ad was placed on craigslist for my position at my pharmacy as well as wanting someone to buy the pharmacy. So once again, I'm looking for a job (I'm waiting to get fired, which should happen soon), but my outlook isn't so bleak this time. I have new friends who know my worth and are happy to help whenever they can. So even if I go back to part time positions, at least it will be from people who respect me and my license.
