Things in the pharmacy have really been acting up lately:
In the beginning of Februrary, my pharmacy got robbed. It happened at 5am, when the pharmacy was closed. The robbers took an electric saw and cut a hole in the roof of the building, dropped down, stole most of my percocet and oxycodone, tried to drill through our safe and then headed back up the roof. All the while, the alarm had gone off, but the police did not arrive for an hour afterward. All this happened on the one saturday that I was working, so I ended up having to get my DNA taken to rule me out as a suspect (since I'm the one who accounts for the narcotics, this made sense). It was also raining that day, so one of the computers that was under the hole in the roof was ruined. We ended up only losing about $10,000 of narcotics, but my techs and I calculated it out and the street value for the amount of meds they stole was probably around 40 or 50K.
Less than 2 weeks later, my co-pharmacist Sharif ended up accidentally downloading an internet virus onto our server and downing our network for 3 days. It still amazes me that someone who knows so little about computers (he's about 65 and took a break from pharmacy for 15 years) believes that he can make it in the modern pharmacy world. I also have unofficially/officially become the new head pharmacist... again. How I get into these positions, I do not know: first I'm supervising pharmacist after only being in the pharmacy industry for 3 months and now I'm directing a pharmacy that does 1000 scripts a day and has about 6 techs and 6 cashiers/front store employees. Though to be fair, I am only the head pharmacist when my supervising pharmacist isn't around, like this week when he is on vacation.
Next week, I head to New Orleans for a pharmacy convention. It should be interesting and I will get at least 8 to 10 live CE credits, which I desperately need before I renew my license in June. I will freely admit I'm pretty lazy in doing all those CE things and three years did kind of sneak up on me. I think this little adventure in New Orleans will be much more fun for my boyfriend, who is coming down with me. At least he prepared for it by watching Bizarre Foods on Travel Channel and has already decided which restaurants and sites he's going to see while I'm trying to not sleep through the CE events at the convention. I can't be too jealous though, as I was just there 6 years ago with my friends who went to Tulane university and LSU. That was a good time!
