Sorry this is so late. I actually forgot I had this blog.
Dear Friends,
2015 was a whirlwind year for Alex and
I. For starters, we got MARRIED! It was a great wedding of over 200
people with a star wars theme (and some Chinese, Jewish and Italian
traditions thrown in for good measure). There were wedding pies, a 10
course banquet with Italian and Chinese food, a jedi show that Alex
wrote himself, and so much dancing and drinking. I was really amazed
we pulled it off, but we did and were featured in 2 different wedding
articles.
However, once the festivities were
over, it was straight into working on our prospective businesses.
For me, that meant setting up BroadMeds Pharmacy. We opened at the
end of February and have been steadily increasing ever since. Things
have been tough, as many of the services we wanted to provide take a
considerable amount of time to come in. But our customers seem to
love the store and all my co-workers are hard workers. It will take
a little while, but our pharmacy is starting to become well known in
our neighborhood.
Alex has been working to build up his
company, Robotic Potato. Right before our wedding in March, the main
designer of Kami Kami, the game Alex had been working on, quit with
barely an explanation. It left Alex in an odd position and we didn't
know where to go for a while. But, not to be deterred, Alex decided
to create a game that had been on his mind for a while and in April
“Spacecats In Space!” was born. Along with creating his own
game, Alex started looking for clients to help fund his company. He
found a few interested people and was able to work on other people's
games while using the money to bring Spacecats to life. A few
conventions later and it seems Spacecats is a hit with many people
signing up for the “Mewsletter” and having people line up at
conventions to play the game. We look forward to showcasing our game
and company at multiple conventions in 2016 as well as setting up a
Kickstarter.
Along with starting up businesses, Alex
and I have also been traveling quite a bit. Our first stop was Los
Angeles for a wedding, then out to Indianapolis for GenCon. After
that, Alex was given the opportunity to show his game at a convention
in Galveston, Texas. We then made plans to finally go on our
honeymoon, which we did not have the opportunity to do after our
wedding. So in October, Alex and I traveled for 3 weeks to Singapore
and Australia. We ate way too much delicious food in Singapore, met
one of the members of Robotic Potato in Sydney, scuba dived and went
fishing on the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns, swam with dolphins and
hung out with Kangaroo's in Adelaide and to top it all off, we
attended PAX in Melbourne. It was quite the trip of a lifetime, but
I think I'm done with boats and 20+ hour plane rides for a while.
Alex and I have enjoyed 2015 and are
excited for where 2016 will lead us. Happy Holidays!
Love,
Alex Lau and Jennifer Rabbin-Lau
