Christmas Letter 2011

Dear Friends,

Wow, this year has been crazy. I may say that every year, but this year I truly mean it. I'll start off with our trip to the Cayman's. It was quick, but it was a great getaway and Alex and I became certified scuba divers down there. When we came back, we celebrated two years together and started planning for our conventions.

However, in April we were shocked to find out that Alex's mom has stage 3 breast cancer and was scheduled for chemo, radiation and a mastectomy. It was really tough on us, as what was to be a quiet summer turned into running up and down between Atlantic City and New York almost every weekend between July to September. The good thing about Atlantic City in the summer is it is actually a really nice place to be during that time, so it wasn't all morose. I ended up celebrating my birthday in Wildwood, which is boardwalk 45 minutes south of AC that has a lot of rides, games and food. But we were there to help Fonnie (Alex's mom) and did end up spending a lot of time doing errands while she went through chemotherapy. Despite this, Alex and I attended thee major conventions over the summer, which included Wizard Philly, which we have gone with NYJedi and is in general the convention that the Jedi perform in the most.

Alex and I also headed to GenCon, which is a gaming convention in Indianapolis. There, Alex rediscovered his passion for miniature’s games. To those who don't know, miniature games consist of small models that are painted by the players and then played like chess except with way more rules and dice are involved. Alex bought one game series called Arcane Legion and also started up a faction from the game Warmachine, which he has since completed. At GenCon we played many games, saw new games that had not been released yet and were able to demo them and also got to go through this amazing event called True Dungeon. True Dungeon is sort of like a haunted house, but Dungeons and Dragons themed. Alex and I really enjoyed it and plan on taking off a few days of work next summer so we can have the full GenCon experience next year.

DragonCon was our last big convention and that was during Labor day. At the end of DragonCon, with what seemed like a comedy of errors throughout the entire convention, we decided that 1) this was our last comic convention we will attend for at least a year and 2) that we needed to step back from NYJedi. And that's what we did. While we did end up going to New York Comic Con, it was only for a very short period and we did not associate ourselves with NYJedi at all. And Alex and I ended up pulling back from the NYJedi classes, since Alex found out that there were Warmachine tournaments every Thursday at a gaming store here in the city. So we only planned on going to the Tuesday classes for NYJedi, but then they canceled those so we will most likely not be back to NYJedi for a while.

Alex is now on family medical leave and has spent every week since the end of october in Atlantic City. He comes back on the weekends to see me, but other than that, he is away. I am still working in the Bronx, with a lot of crazy things happening recently, which included one of the pharmacists I worked with stealing hundreds of tablets of Oxycodone 30mg and the DEA was involved and so on. So, because of all this, Alex and I decided to move into a two bedroom in Chinatown that was cheaper than our one bedroom in Midtown. We are having some issues with getting internet, but hopefully we will get that fixed soon. Until next year!

Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

Jennifer and Alex
